Mentor/Mentee Discussions

  • Review needs assessment and the goal set for the school year (Mentor Program Goal)

  • Review difference between evaluation and mentoring

  • Review due dates for the program

  • Review questions from building tour

    • Examples: Office personnel introductions, office supplies and procedures, printer/Copy Center procedures, building traditions, procedures, and protocols, and dress code expectations

  • Review the Building/District Calendar – discuss expectations for back-to-school nights or student/parent orientation events

  • K-5: Collaborate around each of the content areas and reach out to grade-level chairs as needed to gather information about the order chapters/topics are typically taught for the mentee’s grade level

  • 6-12: Collaborate around each of the mentee’s assigned preps and reach out to department chairs/colleagues who teach the same classes about the order chapters/topics are typically taught for the mentee’s grade level

  • Review PBIS (CHAMPS/DSC/Foundations) training including setting classroom routines and procedures

  • Review classroom schedule, bell schedule, alternatives schedules, lunch schedule, etc.

  • Consider how to first communicate with families and/or prepare for open house/back-to-school nights

  • Create and communicate syllabus/grading policies in line with district and building policies/student handbooks – consider how late work will be handled

  • Review substitute procedures, calling in sick, securing a sub, etc.

  • Review emergency phone numbers for your building

  • Review student accounts handout

  • Review BSEL curriculum/instruction expectations for your building (K-5 Second Step, 6-12 7 Mindsets)

Pre-K through 5th Grade

July 31 – District Welcome, Productivity Tools, MTSS, Teacher Clarity sessions

August 1 – PBIS (CHAMPS/DSC/Foundations) Training

August 2 – Seesaw & Curriculum Support Apps sessions

August 3 – District-Level and Building-Level Orientations

August 4 – FastBridge sessions, SPED Orientation, and IEP Basics

August 8 – Mentor/Mentee Training

6th through 12th Grade

  • Locate important links on the district website (Staff Resources, Teaching and Learning, Copy Center, Community Resources)

  • Login to Frontline – confirm credentials to create first absence when needed

  • Work through all student accounts with logins and basic use

  • Learn about Technology/maintenance helpdesk tickets

  • Discuss KESA goals for district and buildings

Building-Level New Certified Staff Meetings

  • Review KEEP2 login and goal setting

  • Building tour including office personnel introductions, janitorial staff, office supplies and procedures, printer/Copy Center procedures, parking, building traditions, procedures, and protocols, and dress code expectations

  • Introduce SPED certified staff, classified staff, building specialists, and additional support staff along with their roles and the expectations for effective collaboration with same

  • Review the Building Calendar – discuss expectations for back-to-school nights or student/parent orientation events

  • Locate important links on the building website

  • Clarify PBIS (CHAMPS/DSC/Foundations) expectations

  • Discuss classroom schedule, bell schedule, alternatives schedules, lunch schedule, etc.

  • Discuss building handbooks including syllabus/grading/late work policies

  • Discuss methods/policies/procedures for keeping grades up to date

  • Discuss FastBridge testing and other standardized testing dates for the school year

  • Discuss substitute procedures, calling in sick, securing a sub, etc.

  • Share emergency phone numbers for your building

  • Share building-level action plan and introduce BLT

  • Share BSEL curriculum/instruction expectations for your building (Second Step, 7 Mindsets)
